when i first took lauren and jamie to my apt

lauren was looking through the fridge

(because she likes to make sure everything is clean...i never told the landlord about the pack of smokes behind the fridge or the book behind the stove...i forgot dood)

we found a photograph in the freezer

and it's a school photo

of a girl with a plaid shirt

and a lazy eye

and she's maybe 13 years old

and we hid it in the cabinet in case the landlord looked the the apt again before i moved in

and now she is stuck into the side of the cabinet door

and she watches me while i cook food and clean my dishes

she is like a secret friend

a watcher.

i wonder sometimes where she is now

and if she misses her picture.

i wish she had signed the back

or at least dated it

she's silent

and smiling

and i'll leave her here when i move out.
