i just watched a movie called the slaughter rule.

it was pretty good.

the movie made me miss the wide open skies in iowa.

isn't that weird?

and it made me think of the perfect beauty of driving through wyoming in the cold january morning, the sun seeming like it was rising forever, my brother sleeping, exhausted, next to me.

stopping for gas, the 16 yr old boy behind the counter with a look in his eye that said he would grow to be an old man in that town.

and it was set in montanna, which is a whole different kind of sky anyway.

if niki does come up here, i want to take a road trip out through northern idaho and into montana. i have wanted to do that since i moved out here.

i think there were things in the movie that reminded me of how much i romanticized moving to the midwest before i went there.

and i think there were things that i would have grown to love there, if i had stayed.

but i could have only done that with a companion, i think.

a sky like that is simply too big to face alone.
