2001-07-18 & 10:21 a.m. : hey let's do it like we're friends, let's do it do it

i don't think i have found a better "get ready for the day" song than '20th century boy' by t rex. it made me want to get all tarted up and tease my hair out and put on really really red lipstick and staten island girl eyeshadow and glittery nail polish and glittery blush and a boa and catwalk around my room and through the halls at work.

and it made me want to find a cute boy to put red lipstick on and then have a big messy make out session so that we could both get the red lipstick all over ourselves in a big decadent bang a gong way.

it was that good.

it was so good, in fact, that i spent a good 5 minutes this morning looking for this so i could listen to it on the way to work.

and as i was driving through the mountains to get to the freeway that would take me to work, i listened to that soundtrack and i imagined we were on kanan road, and it was midnight and we were on our way to santa monica by way of the coast. and if i was a little bit more awake i would have ripped a loud "YOW!", but it wasn't the middle of the night, and i wasn't in LA and you weren't there, so i just kept my mouth shut.

and then roxy music came on. and you know how i feel about roxy music. in fact, anyone who's received an email from me knows how i feel about roxy music. mmmm brian ferry.

speaking of which, L, i was driving with your pretty pony the other day and we were talking about shows that were coming up because i saw a big billboard for depeche mode's upcoming show at the shoreline and i saw at the bottom of the ad that roxy music was going to be playing soon. and ponyboy goes "roxy music, barf" and i go "WHAT? WHAT THE HUH? no vay! they are roxy fucking music, MAN" and ponyboy goes "whatever, they have 'roxy' in their name" to which i had two immediate reactions.

#1: ...

#2: errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr--get out of the car

but i couldn't do that because we were driving in his big truck. and though i could have jumped out of the truck and walked (which was my third reaction, if not immediate), we were on our way to a show, and i don't know my way around SF well enough to have taken the bus.

but then i had my 4th, and final, reaction. i just felt bad for him. poor poor ponyboy who has no understanding of musical history, who can't possibly appreciate music the same way that those of us that know, do.

and i just reread that and it probably looks like elitest garbage to those who don't know who i am talking about. but those of us that know the pony boy know that it's right on the money.

because, let me reiterate:

"whatever, they have 'roxy' in their name."

"...'roxy' in their name."

"...'oxy'..."

"..."

yeah, exactly.
